Is this generation just too dull witted to understand the Bible?

Maybe, it's not the Bibles shortcomings that causes narrow minded and intolerant fundamentalism. I'm not asking about fringe elements, or backwoods illiterates. Could it be that people today, in general, just aren't able to understand the Bible?
